About
Kylie Minogue exploded onto the music scene in 1987 and has not only become a chart topping, multi-award winning global artist over the past two decades, but also a fashion icon, designer, entrepreneur, actress and philanthropist. She broke records and made history with her 1988 debut album, “Kylie,” which entered the charts at No. 1 and became the first album by a female solo artist to exceed sales of two million in the UK and ultimately going seven-times platinum.
Before becoming a multi-Grammy Award-winner, Kylie first made her mark with her 1987 remake of “The Locomotion,” which hit No.1 on the Australian singles chart and remained in the top spot for seven weeks, becoming the biggest Australian single of the ’80s; a staggering two decades later Kylie achieved the record for the most played female artist on UK radio over the last 20 years. Kylie has become a pop music icon to her fans and critics alike, having graced the covers of some of the world’s leading magazines, including multiple covers of Vogue (Australian Guest Editor in 2006), Elle, V Magazine, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Time, GQ, FHM, Cosmopolitan, Music Week, Sky, Attitude, Australian Style, Flaunt, Hello, Cleo, The Face, Follow Me, Heat, ID, Melody Maker, Ministry, OK, Paris Match, and Select.
After achieving success overseas, Kylie broke into the U.S. market with her 2001 smash single “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” from her album “Fever.” The song reached No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot 100, while both the song and album received Platinum certification in the U.S. “Fever” earned Kylie a Grammy Award with the single “Come into My World.” She was also nominated for four more Grammys including Best Dance Recording (“Love at First Sight,” “Slow,” and “I Believe In You”) and Best Electronic/Dance Album for her album “X” in 2009.
In addition to the Grammys, Kylie has dominated the awards circuit, having been nominated for and winning countless awards both in the US and internationally, including the BRIT Awards, German Bambi Awards, Ivor Novello Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Asia Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV Movie Awards, Much Music Video Awards, NME Awards, NRJ Music Awards, Q Awards, Top of the Pops Awards, and many more. In 2011 she was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as recognized by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) for her accomplishments in music. Kylie has always been true to her fans, bringing them spectacular live shows time and again; She has taken on 10 world tours spanning Europe, Asia, South America, North America, and Oceania and was named “Live Performer of the Year” at 2003’s Australian Mo Awards. She took home the Helpmann Award in 2012 for “Best Australian Contemporary Concert” for Kylie Aphrodite Les Folies Tour 2011. She also awed millions of fans with her performance at the Closing Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Kylie has remained a force to be reckoned with and a constant musical influence throughout the years, having released eleven studio albums, two live CDs, eight live concert DVDs, plus her “Greatest Hits” and the “Ultimate Kylie” double album and multiple video packages. She has released 50 singles internationally, all of which have been hits — an impressive achievement in an otherwise volatile and ever-changing musical landscape. In 1991, Kylie became the only act in the history of the British pop music at the time to have their first 13 releases all go Top 10. Kylie now has 46 consecutive chart-topping U.K. hits.
While she has been no stranger to the stage, Kylie has also made her mark in the film, literary, fashion, and beauty arenas. She starred in several feature films including “The Delinquents,” a top grossing film in the UK, as well as a leading role in the blockbuster “Street Fighter,” and starred as the Green Fairy in Baz Luhrmann’s critically acclaimed “Moulin Rouge” and the critically acclaimed “Holy Motors.”
Kylie has also released eight perfumes, including ‘Darling’ and ‘Pink Sparkle.’ Her Kylie at Home collection of linens, candles, diffusers and towels from her Kylie Minogue at Home brand of homeware, marked its 5th anniversary in 2013, and will continue to expand into additional retailers worldwide.
In October 1999, Kylie released a collectible art book featuring contributions from many of the world’s most respected artists, on the theme of “Kylie.” Demand for the book was unprecedented with a second printing within the first month of release. In 2008 she released her collectible limited edition “K” book featuring William Baker’s photos of her. Most recently in 2012, her latest book “Kylie / Fashion” was released in the UK, charting her relationship with some of the most talented people in fashion throughout her career. The book was released in the U.S. in 2013.
Despite over two decades worth of impressive accomplishments, Kylie is just getting started. After signing a management deal in 2013 with Roc Nation, she is poised to take the world by storm for decades yet to come.
